If, like me, your Instagram algorithm has served up reels of idiotic dangerous driving, or you've simply concerned about the poor quality of the UK's roads, then you'll want a dash cam to record your journeys – here are five reasons why you'd want a dash cam.

Trust me, Black Friday is the best time to score a dash cam (aka a camera that can be mounted above your dashboard) for less: case in point, you can grab the Nextbase Piqo for £54.99 (was £99) at Amazon right now.

The Netbase Piqo is a much smaller and simplified version of the pricier Nextbase iQ smart dash cam, with cleverly implemented 'light' versions of the iQ's smart features. Right now, for just £54.99 you bag the 1K version of the camera. For most drivers, the Piqo will be plenty enough and it's a fraction of the price of the iQ.

Now I don't currently have a car, as being based in London if feels a bit unnecessary, but the last time I took to the road I was almost run off a motorway by a driver who I can't adequately describe without using foul language.

And seeing how some unscrupulous sorts are deliberately causing accidents to fuel insurance scams, not to mention the increasing number of potholes in our roads, I think a dash cam is a must-have accessory for regular road warriors.

The Nextbase Piqo gets my nod, not least of all because it's at a bargain price, but also has a host of features. From a wide-angle 140-degree field of view in a compact frame, to Bluetooth, voice control and smart parking assistance; there's a lot here to like.

Cameras Editor and expert Timothy Coleman gave the dash cam praise in his Nextbase Piqo Dash Cam review, noting: "Anyone wanting a dash cam that's simple to set up and use, with footage that can be quickly used in the event of an incident, will find the Nextbase Piqo the perfect low-cost option."

Enough said really; go grab this Amazon Black Friday deal before it's gone.

If 1080p video sounds a little light, you can click on the same link to access a deal for the Nextbase Piqo 2K (1440p), but it's almost twice the price at the time of writing. Personally I'd go for the affordable 1K version.
