I'll eat my hat if there’s a better cheap phone deal than this one before Black Friday

When my colleague described the Motorola Edge 60 as “the best cheap phone [he’s] tested in years” and “as good as the most expensive phones” in his Motorola Edge 60 review earlier this year, I sat up and took notice.

It’s easy to focus on the bigger names – namely Apple, Samsung, Google – when recommending lower-end models to smartphone buyers in search of a no-frills upgrade, but the Motorola Edge 60 stands firmly alongside the Samsung Galaxy A56 and Google Pixel 9a as one of the best cheap phones money can buy in 2025. And right now, it’s never been cheaper.

Specifically, the Motorola Edge 60 is now just £299.99 (was £349) at Amazon, John Lewis, Currys, Argos, and many more retailers, making it, for me, the best cheap phone deal of the month so far. What’s more, I don’t expect to see that price improve on Black Friday.

Motorola Edge 60
Motorola Edge 60: was £349 now £299.99 at Amazon

As sub-£300 phones go, I can't think of a better option than the Motorola Edge 60. It boasts a capable three-lens rear camera system, a decently powerful Mediatek Dimensity 7300 chipset, and a smooth 6.67-inch display that's perfectly suited to streaming and scrolling. Only the Samsung Galaxy A56 and Google Pixel 9a come close for pure value.

To be clear: the Edge 60 is not a standout device in any one area, and those looking for a higher-end upgrade should peruse our main best phones guide. However, if you’re simply looking for an affordable smartphone that can take great pictures, easily last a full day, and deliver a smooth scrolling and streaming experience, it’s well worth considering.

As I noted in my follow-up piece to our Motorola Edge 60 review: “The Edge 60 boasts a 50MP main camera, a 50MP ultra-wide camera, a 10MP telephoto camera (with 3x optical zoom), and a 50MP selfie camera. You won't find equivalent photographic hardware in any device costing less than the Edge 60's £379 starting price, and in fact, its more expensive sibling, the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, gets the very same camera setup.

“Other specs for the Edge 60 include a 6.67-inch, 120Hz FHD display, a Mediatek Dimensity 7300 chipset, an IP69 water resistance rating, 68W wired charging, and a long-lasting 5,200mAh battery. The phone’s design, too, is incredibly premium-feeling.”

It’s worth noting that the Edge 60 is currently exclusive to the UK, but if you’ve stumbled across this page from the US, fear not. The US-exclusive Motorola Edge (2025) is more or less the same phone. It uses a marginally more powerful chipset and has wireless charging capabilities, but otherwise, it's an identical handset. It’s also just $449.99 at Amazon right now.

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE
Samsung Galaxy S25 FE: was £649 now £498.50 at Amazon

The Samsung Galaxy S25 FE takes everything great about the Galaxy S25, bumps the screen size up, trims the specs down, and slashes the price tag. At this discounted price, this 6.7-inch phone with 128GB of storage is a clear winner against several Android rivals, and stands up well against the iPhone 16e.

Nothing Phone 3
Nothing Phone 3: was £799 now £629 at Amazon

In the UK, Amazon has undercut Nothing's own Black Friday price for its flagship model on both the 256GB and 512GB storage models, which must be annoying at Nothing HQ, but is very good news for potential customers. Though the phone lacks a properly flagship-grade chipset, its triple-camera system and head-turning design will make up for it for a certain kind of user; if that's you, now is the time to buy.
